About This Game You are a lone adventurer in a strange, non-Euclidean world. Gather as much treasure as you can before the nasty monsters get you. Explore about 50 different lands, each with its own unique treasures, enemies, and terrain obstacles. Your quest is to find the legendary treasure, the Orbs of Yendor. Collect one of them to win! Or just ignore your quest and collect smaller treasures.The twist is the unique, unusual geometry of the world: it is one of just few games which takes place on the hyperbolic plane. Witness a grid composed of hexagons and heptagons, straight lines which seem to be parallel, but then they diverge and never cross, triangles whose angles add up to less than 180 degrees, how extremely unlikely is it to reach the same place twice due to practically infinite size of the world (centillions of locations in just 700 steps from the starting point), and how the world seems to be rotated when you do return. All this matters for the gameplay. The game is inspired by the roguelike genre (although in a very minimalist way), works of M. C. Escher, and by puzzle games such as Deadly Rooms of Death.HyperRogue can be played for free from its website. A simple and entertaining roguelike with an atypical movement and exploration system. Very straightforward, but surprisingly addictive, and gets challenging quite fast as you rack up the treasure.. A fun roguelike game in an infinite, randomly generated, hyperbolic world.A roguelike is a game in the style of the classic game "Rogue" or the more modern game nethack, where the basic actions are to move from the space you're in to another space, or attack a monster in that space. Hyperrogue strips down this gameplay by having most enemies die in one hit and so does the player, and by having few items besides treasure to collect and various single-use magical orbs.The twist here is that rather than being able to move on a square grid, instead a grid of hexagons and heptagons is used, with seven hexagons surrounding each heptagon, and each hexagon surrounded by 3 hexagons and 3 heptagons. Such a grid is only possible in a hyperbolic plane, that is, one with negative curvature.Despite the limitation that almost all enemies die in one hit, as do you, combat is interesting and exciting because the game stops you from moving somewhere that will get you killed next turn. You only die if you are "checkmated", that is, if all availble moves would kill you. The game gets harder as you collect more treasue because more enemies appear.Various different "lands" exist, with different obstacles, different enemies and different treasure. Some areas you can't get to unless you fulfill a particular requirement of treasure collected. The sheer amount of unique areas, and the randomness, means the game is fresh every time.Great!. A billion thumbs up for Dune references!. Easy to get into but game has a lot to offer. Most of the game is just walking around by using the keyboard or clicking and can seem simple at first but the rules of the different lands are really creative and add a lot of depth. Plus there are a bunch of special modes including an action mode. Unique take on roguelikes and worth the price.
